Sending your kids to a sleep away camp

With the good whether fast approaching parents are beginning to think ahead to summer camps.  Many kids are going back to the camps they went to in previous summers.  But for those considering camps for the first time it’s an exciting yet scary prospect.  Kids are looking forward to being away and at the same time nervous about it.  About missing their parents, the comforts of home, the familiar routine. It’s a good idea to allow the child to meet some of the kids they will be bunking with.  Maybe talk on the phone .  Let  the child know that this is a special treat to be able to go away not something they are forced to do.  Calm their fears and tell them it is normal to feel homesick for a short while but then all the fun will begin, new friends will arrive and the good times get underway.  In essence, it is what happens to the main character in “Summer Sleep-Away“.
